The Wind Returns with Autumn

The sun and the Autumn chill
pull dust and cobwebs across the house.

The people are away on vacation
and the dog sleeps in her own softness.

The wind climbs through the open window
off the backs of cherry leaves
and finds me quiet on the bed's edge.

He holds my bare skin so close
we grow old together in one moment.

The leaves begin to dry
and eternity lays on each surface
in the room like a mist.
